Flour Sack Ghosts

I made these flour sacks ghosts late one night by using some wooden furniture feet that I found at an estate sale. There were only three of them instead of four and since I could not use them on any furniture I wanted to come up with something fun to create with them!

Lets get started! You will need some sort of base to hold your ghosts, I am using these wooden furniture feet. If you dont have anything like this you could simply use some small heavy chunks of wood. My wooden feet already had a hole drilled into the middle and were already painted black. I did add some antique wax to the raw part of the wood in the top to give them a finished look.

I took these flour sacks you can find at Dollar Tree and coffee stained them.

I used two for this project. Just soak them in some left over coffee for 10-15 mins. Take them out and remove any excess coffee and let dry. After they are dry they should be all nice and wrinkled and aged looking!

I then cut off the hem of the towels for a more tattered look. I took these floral foam balls also from the Dollar Tree.

I used the 1.9 inch foam balls that come in a four pack but use whatever size coordinates well with whatever base you are using. You want it to look proportional with your base. Take a wooden dowel and poke that into the foam ball. I used one of these 4 inch dowels that I found from the Dollar Tree as well.

You can trim it down later as needed before you glue it to your base.

Cut a large square out of the flour sack that will be big enough to cover the foam and drape down nicely. Drape it over your foam ball, gather the material up underneath and using some twine tie it securely underneath your foam ball to form your ghost. Next I just used a sharpie to draw on the eyes.

I also added a an unfinished wooden tag stamped "boo." To make this tag I bought some 1.5 inch unfinished wooden tags from Michaels. I added sone antiquing wax around the edge for an aged look. I also found a Halloween stamp set last year at Michaels that included a stamp that said "boo." I used permament black ink to stamp on the wording then just tied it onto the existing jute around the ghosts neck.

Last, I trimmed the dowel to my needed height and using some wood glue and hot glue I glued the dowel into the predrilled hole in my base. Now you have some cute vintage ghosts to display for Halloween!
