Wood Round Mummies
I also bought a tea towel from the Dollar Trer and coffee stained it with my left over coffee from that morning. Just let it soak for about 30 mins-1 hour, wring it out, and let dry. If you dont have a tea towel any fabric would work. You could use cheesecloth or a muslin type fabric as well.
Once it is dry tear it into about 1" inch strips so it has tattered edges. Set these aside.
You will need some eyes. These are cut out from wood that I found at an estate sale. They were painted different colors so I repainted them white. You could also use googly eyes.
I added the black part of the eyes by dipping the end of a paint brush into my black chalk paint and dabbing it onto the wood eyes.
Next I painted my wood rounds all black. Front and back. Let dry.
Then it was time to hot glue the eyes into positions. I wanted them all to look a ljttle different so I glued the eyes in seperate areas on each piece.
Now lets get wrapping! I found it easier to start by taking my fabric strips and hot gluing a piece all the way around the sides of the wood round.m and cut it off. This helped with coverage.
Then I glued down the start of another strip to the back and began wrapping it around the wood round in kind of criss cross pattern while gluing as I wrapped. I tried to cover most of the round with the fabric so not much of the black was showing. But dont cover up your eyes! Make sure to leave them peeking out.
I felt like it needed more detail so I decided to make a little cardstock tag for the mummy. I used a Trick or Treat stamp I purchased at Michaels and stamped it onto some cardstock. I made a stamp for each mummy.
Cut stound your stamp squaring it out. Then using my corner punch I cut each one of the corners of the tags roundung them out. If you dont have one of these they save so much time and I recommend getting one if you like to make tags!
Prior to this project I had made some rusty safety pins. You can rust some too by just soaking them in a half and half mixture of water, white vinegar, and salt for about 1 hour. Once they have soaked, drain them and soak them again in a new mixture of the same and you will see them rust instantly. You can also find other ways to do this process all over Pinterest. Let them dry over night before using. Do not rinse them!
I did use a small hole punch to punch holes in the top iof my tag where the safety pin will go through but it is not necessary if you do not have a 1/16" hole punch. I purchased mine on Amazon. I used the safety pin to hold the tags onto the fabric of the front of each of the mummies.
Here is what they looked like when I finished!
